York Region

York Region is one of the fastest growing regions in the Greater Toronto Area and has earned a reputation as a premier, diverse business location. Since 2001 York Region’s population has grown by an annual average rate of 4.1% and employment grew 22% from 380,000 to 465,000.

Comprised of nine vibrant municipalities, the Region have a strong economic base that encompasses information and communications technology, biotechnology and biopharma, environmental products and services, business services, automotive and transportation equipment manufacturing and agricultural and tourism-based industries.

As of December 31, 2007, York Region’s population was estimated to be 983,000. By 2031 the Region's population is projected to reach an astounding 1.5 million people and have 780,000 jobs. Strong population growth has fueled demand for service-producing industries such as businesses and personal services, health care and retail while manufacturing continues to be the largest employment sector.

Many renowned and dynamic companies call York Region home. Over 22 major brand name firms with over 500 employees are established in the Region served by a well educated and skilled multicultural workforce. The Region offers an excellent quality of life and a wide range of unique recreational opportunities for all ages, from top-rated golf courses, museums and galleries, premier equestrian facilities, and Canada’s Wonderland to scenic nature trails on the Oak Ridges Moraine.

York Region has become the preferred location for national headquarters, national distribution centres and professional service centres.
